Location of Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda

Queen Elizabeth National Park is the second biggest national park in Uganda, roughly 400 kilometres from Kampala the city of Uganda’s capital city.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most famous wildlife conservation areas in East Africa and the most visited national park in Uganda located in the western region of Uganda near the international border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The park lies within the western branch of the East African Rift Valley known to have lakes, volcanic craters and dramatic terrain landscapes.
The park’s location is significant because it lies in a region where savannah grasslands, forests, wetlands, and lakes meet, creating one of the most diverse ecosystems in Africa. There are more than 95 species of mammals, 600 species of birds.
Geographically
The park is located about 400 kilometers southwest of Kampala requiring you to transfer for a period of 5–6 hours since the park stretches between two major lakes i.e lake George in the northeast and Lake Edward in the southwest. These two lakes are connected by the Kazinga Channel, a prominent waterway that runs through the park and supports a high concentration of wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles and birds. The approximate geographical coordinates of the park are Latitude: 0.2000° S and Longitude: 30.0000° E.
Administrative Location
The park covers an area of about 1,978 square kilometres and spreads across many districts in western Uganda and these include; Kasese District, Kamwenge District, Rubirizi District, Rukungiri District.
Neighboring Natural Features
The location of the park places it near several important natural landmarks and protected areas like Rwenzori Mountains National Park to the northwest, Kibale National Park to the northeast, Virunga National Park across the border to the west. These surrounding landscapes create a unique ecological region which supports many wildlife species and habitats.
