Kyambura Gorge
Kyambura Gorge is amazing to explore at Queen Elizabeth National Park known for inhabiting wildlife animals, biodiversity. The Gorge lies on the North Eastern edge of Queen Elizabeth National Park approximately 30 kilometers from the park headquarters with the Western Rift Valley system carved by the Kyambura River as it flows from the Kichwamba Escarpment into the Kazinga Channel.
The Kyambura Gorge is 100 meters covering a distance of 1 km making it an extraordinary destination to explore the dense tropical rainforest with thick vegetation that inhabits the chimpanzees. Kyambura Gorge is usually referred to as an “underground forest” due to because its steep walls enclose a lush, humid ecosystem isolated from the surrounding savannah.

Wildlife animals at Kyambura Gorge
Chimpanzees
Chimpanzees are the most famous attractions at the gorge and these offer travelers a chance to trek the chimpanzees in their natural forest habitat. The Chimpanzees inhabit the green forest vegetation and are trekked for a period of 2 to 4 hours following varying trails in the green forest till you meet them and stay in their presence taking many photos to keep. When you meet the chimpanzees, you shall stay in their presence taking many photos to keep. Other than the chimpanzees, you shall watch other primates which include; Black-and-white colobus monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, Vervet monkeys, Olive baboons, forest hogs, Bushbucks.
Other than Primate Trekking, travelers can enjoy bord watching as there are various bird species which include; the African finfoot, Blue-headed bee-eater, African skimmer, Pink-backed pelican, White-tailed lark.
Activities to do in the Park
Chimpanzee Tracking
Chimpanzee Tracking is the most prominent safari adventure done in the Gorge and this includes transferring from the park headquarters where you are briefed on conduct around the chimpanzees. After the briefing session, you shall be located into groups of 8 with lead rangers to the starting points where you leave from to enter the green forest to trek the Chimpanzees.
After a while of 2 to 4 hours, you shall meet the chimpanzees and stay in their presence for an hour taking many photos to keep. After a while, you shall return back to the headquarters to pick your trekking certificate.
Guided Nature Walks
Guided Nature Walks are awesome to enjoy as they include transferring through the green forest vegetation from one point to another enjoying the scenic views of Forest trails, Riverbanks, Scenic viewpoints. You shall encounter primates, bird species, butterflies, unique plant life.
Bird watching
Bird watching is amazing to do in the Park and this gives you a chance to watch many bird species which fly from one point to another. The Bird species you watch include; the African finfoot, blue-headed bee-eater, martial eagle, African skimmer, papyrus gonolek, falcons.
Photography Safaris
Photography Safaris are incredible to do at the Kyambura Gorge as you take stunning photos of the green terrain, chimpanzees, bird species in their natural vegetation habitat.
