Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park

The Ishasha sector is one of the most unique and captivating region in the vast Queen Elizabeth National Park situated in the southern part of the park close to the border with Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Ishasha Sector consists of the its rare tree-climbing lions which are fond of relaxing within the fig tree branches. It includes; vast savannah landscapes, remote wilderness atmosphere, Open savannah plains, Scattered fig and acacia trees, Seasonal rivers like the Ishasha River which help the animals break thirst.

The Ishasha Sector is perfect for travelers looking for an authentic safari experience in Uganda. The tree climbing lions climb trees for reasons i.e escaping heat from the ground, avoiding biting insects i.e tsetse flies, getting a better vantage point to spot prey, resting comfortably on the vast tree branches. The lions are watched lounging on the fig tree branches sometimes in groups hence creating beautiful, iconic safari experiences.

Game Drives

Game drives in the Ishasha Sector are the initial safari adventure and offer you a chance to watch the rare tree climbing lions. The Game Drives are conducted in the early Morning and late Afternoon at 2:30 pm. The Lions are usually relaxing in the fig tree branches as they observe other wildlife animals wander around their natural habitat hence becoming prey.

Photography Opportunities are exceptional to do in Ishasha Sector as travelers get a chance to watch lions hunt for prey. Travelers can take photos of the lions resting in the fig tree branches, open terrain landscapes, golden photos of the sunrise and sunset.

Best Time to Visit Ishasha Sector

Ishasha Sector can be visited anytime around the year although the best time to visit the park is during the dry Season in the months of June–August, December–February. During this period, it is easier to watch wildlife as they gather around water sources.
