Queen Elizabeth National Park is situated in the western part of Uganda approximately 400 kms southwest of Kampala close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The park stretches from Lake George in the northeast to Lake Edward in the southwest which are adjoined by the Kazinga Channel a 36-kilometer natural waterway that supports abundant wildlife species.
The park lies within the Great Rift Valley an area characterized by volcanic features like the crater lakes and hills which were formed millions of years ago. These geological features create beautiful landscapes which act as habitats for various plant and animal species.

Fauna in the Park
Queen Elizabeth National Park is known to inhabit various wildlife animals i.e more than 95 species of mammals recorded. These include; African elephants,
African buffaloes, Lions, Leopards, Hippopotamuses, Uganda kob, Warthogs, Giant forest hogs, Chimpanzees. There are also the unique tree climbing lions which are found in the famous Ishasha Sector and here, the lions are fond of relaxing within the fig tree branches during the afternoons which are ideal periods to take various photos.
There are lots of bird species that inhabit the green forest vegetation i.e more than 600 species and these include; African fish eagle, Shoebill stork, Grey crowned crane, Malachite kingfisher, Marabou stork.
Climate of the Park
The park experiences a tropical climate with average temperatures ranging between 18°C and 28°C. Rainfall occurs mainly in two seasons in the months of March to May as well as September to November.
The dry seasons (June–August and December–February) are generally the best times for wildlife viewing.

Game Drives
Game drives across the Kasenyi plains allow visitors to see lions, elephants, antelopes, and buffaloes in their natural habitats. The Game Drives give you a chance to watch many wildlife animals wandering around their habitat and these include; warthogs, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas. Lions, hippos, small antelope, kobs, leopards, etc.
Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel
A Boat Cruise along Kazinga Channel is exceptional to have while on safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park and this offers you a chance to watch wildlife animals like hippos, crocodiles and water birds.
Chimpanzee Tracking
Chimpanzee trekking is conducted in Kyambura Gorge, where visitors can observe these primates in the wild. Other than Kyamburo Gorge, travelers can trek and watch chimpanzees at Kalinzu Forest located close to the Park. Chimpanzee tracking offers you a chance to trek and watch the rare chimpanzees in their habitat for a period of an hour after trekking them for 2 to 4 hours.
Bird Watching
Due to the park’s exceptional bird diversity, it attracts bird watchers from around the world. Bird watching in the Park offers you a chance to watch many species of birds which include; rare Shoebill, African Skimmer, Papyrus Gonolek and various raptors like the Martial Eagle.
